Tozeur (توزر) is located in the Jerid of Tunisia and is the chief town of the governorate which bears the same name. According to the 2004 census, it numbers 32 400 inhabitants.
Located to the north-west Chott el-Jerid, it is situated at the south west area of the country, 450 km from the capital Tunis. It is also an oasis at the gateways of the Sahara desert. The city of Tozeur boasts a glorious religious past, as illustrated by the large number of its marabouts, to judge by its contemporary landscape.
